Henshaw: Return from the Primitive Methodist chapel in the 1851 Census of Places of Public Religious Worship

Henshaw Primitive Methodist chapel in the Hexham circuit was opened on 17/04/1835 and the occasion is described in the Primitive Methodist magazine by W Towler.

Mr R Thompson gave the ground for the new chapel, which measured 22′(w) x 28′ (l) and was stone built. Preachers at the opening were Brothers Towler & Eckersall.

The chapel was enlarged in 1885 at a cost of £390, to seat 150 people: a Sunday school room was added in 1905. On the 1971 map it is marked as the Women’s Institute

The building still exists as four bedroomed accommodation called Roman Hall and you could have bought it in 2015 for £325,000.
