In 1877 South Cave P M Chapel cost approximately £600 to build. It was used for worship until 2005 when the Society decided to join with the C. of E. Church. Due to the continuing flood risk, a damp location and other structural problems the chapel was put up for sale in 2007. Sadly in 2009 it appeared not to have been sold. By 2013 it had been sold and very tastefully converted into a dwelling.

Stylistically, the architect of the 1872 chapel was probably Joseph Wright.
We were in South Cave in September on an ancestry search, my wife has ancestors 1800 – 1860 there. It is now being converted into a private dwelling house. An elderly lady and daughter passing by us told us that the congregation was insufficient to maintain the church and by agreement most of the congregation were welcomed at the Parish Church of South Cave. It was clear that the chapel had been neglected, and the conversion to a dwelling is now under way, with the usual building debris.
Our interest in South Cave is that my wife Barbara has Adamson and Wilson ancestors from 18th century. South Cave is a fair sized north bank village not far from The Humber Bridge. Whilst the main road is quite busy, and is not particularly pretty, the side street to the Chapel, Church and Cave Castle retains many of the pleasant features of a century earlier. Indeed “Church Corner” remains almost untouched compared with a photo 1909 and a sketch 1890 in the South Cave Parish Registers book – apart from the iron railings being taken for the WW2 War effort. Close to the Chapel is the former Girls School of 1866, this has been converted sensitively into a private dwelling. Cave Castle is now a major hotel.
