George was born in Leeds on 17 February 1805. His father was John Armitage. George was baptised on 28 Apr 1805 at St Peter, Leeds.

Ministry

George accompanied John Oxtoby in 1824 during his mission in Weardale.

Family

George married Margaret Dixon on 15 March 1826 at Fulford, Yorkshire. Margaret was born on 5 March 1804 at Fulford and died on 1 January 1829.

George married Ann Connell on 20 May 1830 at Mirfield, Yorkshire. They had one daughter, Selina born on 17 May 1831. The apparent break in his ministry, 1830-1832, may have been associated with problems in his family life at that time.

The 1841 census shows George married to Sarah (1805-1872). They had two children.

  • Alfred (1837-1842)
  • Cyrus (1841-1863) – an apprentice chemist prior to his death.

In 1874, George married for a fourth time to Ellen Parrott (1809-1887).

George died on 28 February 1889 at Wetherby, Yorkshire.
