Early years

Joseph was born on 6 February 1824 at Hebden Bridge, Yorkshire. His father James was a weaver.

Joseph spent 9 years as a local preacher before becoming itinerant.

Ministry

His obituary records that Joseph was a quiet unobtrusive man, but endeared himself greatly to those who knew him; and though he never gained a prominent position in the Church, yet “he was a good man”.

Family

Joseph married Elizabeth Fowls (1829-1884) in July 1858 at Bradwell, Derbyshire.

He married Mary Ann Whipp, nee Poole, (1817-1897) on 3 July 1884 at St Mark, Dalson, Hackney, London

Joseph died on 6 October 1894 at Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.
