Hunt, Alfred William (1842-1910)

ALFRED W. HUNT, of the High Wycombe Circuit, gave himself to the Lord in early youth. Becoming a member of the Society at Radnage, he threw his abundant energies into its service of work, and proved himself worthy to take a leading part. His initials first appeared on the Circuit plan in July, 1862. In October, 1865, he was a fully- accredited and acceptable local preacher.

His clear, penetrating voice has thrilled many an audience; his lively humour, sparkling wit, and spiritual fervour have blessed and uplifted many a heart. For many years he has rendered invaluable service to our Naphill Society, filling, at different times, the positions of Sunday school superintendent, Society steward, Class leader and trustee. During the last two years failing health has compelled him to desist from much of his earlier activity; but he loved the house set apart for the worship of God with unabated fervour, and he spent part of the last twenty-four hours of his life within its walls.

The end came swiftly. He had done his work, and the Father called him to “Come and rest.” On Monday, February 28th, he quietly fell asleep.

Family and other information

Alfred was baptised on 5 June 1842 at Radnage, Buckinghamshire. His parents were John, a carpenter, and Harriet.

Alfred trained as a wood turner and for the majority of his working life was a chair turner and ran a grocery business.

Alfred married Eliza Hunt (abt1845-1925) in the spring of 1863 in the Wycombe Registration District. Census returns identify nine children of ten children.

Alfred died on 28 February 1910 at Naphill, Hughenden, Buckinghamshire.
