Parkin, Charles Samuel (1862-1919)
Early years
Charles was born in 1862 at Leicester, Leicestershire to parents Samuel Parkin and Maria Whysall. Samuel was a PM Minister.
Business Life
The 1911 census describes Charles as a cashier for a metal merchant.
Contribution to the Connexion
Charles was associated with the church at Chorlton-cum-Hardy. He was a local preacher and held almost every office in the Church.
As a preacher his sermons were carefully prepared. His message was direct, forceful, interesting and evangelical.
Charles was Vice President of Conference in 1915
Family
Charles married Elizabeth Holmes (1861-1933) in late 1883 at Belper, Derbyshire. Census returns identify three children.
- Ada May (b1887)
- Frances Henry (1889-1954) – a chartered accountant
- Charles Samuel (1891-1941) – an apprentice construction engineer (1911); later a commercial clerk (1933)
Charles died on 3 May 1919 at St Anne’s on Sea, Lancashire.
