Sadler, Ephraim (abt1773-1853)

Early years

Ephraim was born at Burland, nr Nantwich, Cheshire to parents William Sadler and Martha Moss. Ephraim was baptised on 7 Mar 1773 at Baddiley, Cheshire.

When young he became the subject of powerful religious impressions, which “grew with his growth, and strengthened with his strength;” and when about twenty years of age he surrendered his heart unreservedly to God. Ephraim joined with the Wesleyans, and continued a member amongst them for several years. Ephraim worked as a farmer.

In 1819 the Primitive Methodists visited Huxley, Sampson Turner and friends. Ephraim received them into his house, where they commenced to preach. A society was formed, of which Ephraim was the chosen leader; an office which he filled honourably and usefully for several years.

Ephraim removed to Saughall in the Chester circuit. His obituary records that his last sixteen years was one continued scene of affliction. During the whole of this time he seemed as though he had done with the world, and as if he were living on the verge of heaven. As his end drew near, many were the soul-cheering expressions, accompanied by prayer and praise, which dropped from his lips.

Family

Ephraim married Ann Walker (1777-1851) on 15 July 1805 at Chester, Cheshire. Records identify five children.
