Gainsborough Shakespeare Street Primitive Methodist chapel dates from 1904. It seated 760.
It was rebuilt in 1966 as St Andrews. The earlier Sunday School still stood alongside the Church at the time of Keith Guyler’s photograph in 1995. It has since been demolished and houses built on the site.

My grandfather – Alan Kent was a Preacher here most Sundays – he also taught the Sunday School.
He is buried in Haxey just a few miles away.

It is not always easy to identify ministers with particular churches as in the Methodist Church they are attached to a circuit rather than an individual church.
A few ways to find out who had pastoral charge are as follows.
1. Has anyone written a history of the chapel for a major anniversary. e.g. 50, 100, at the time of the rebuild?
2. See if you can find old circuit preaching plans and identify which minister was most often planned to lead worship in that church.
3 See if any minutes of Trustees meeting, Church Councils or Circuit Quarterly Meetings are lodged with the county archives. They would record the information that you are seeking.
