Transcription of Obituary In the Christian Messenger

JAMES MARROW, one of the pioneers of Primitive Methodism in Northwich and the surrounding villages, recently passed away, aged 88. He knew the founders of the Connexion well, and for more than sixty years was a class leader and local preacher. He was given to hospitality, and unstintedly laboured for the advancement of Christ’s kingdom. He frequently represented his circuit at the District Meeting, and once or more was a Conference delegate. Interred at Shipton Church, December 21st.

Family and other information

James was born abt 1811 at Norley, Cheshire. He was baptised on 21 July 1811 at Frodsham, Cheshire. His parents were John and Elizabeth.

James was married to Ann (abt 1814-1875). Census returns identify six children.

• Eliza (b1838)
• Ann (b1841)
• James (1844-1886) – a house painter
• Samuel (1847-1886) – grocer
• Richard (1848-1928) – a house painter

James died in December 1898 at Northwich, Cheshire, and was buried at Witton-cum-Twambrooks, Cheshire.
