Bird, Joseph (abt1804-1900)

Transcription of Obituary In the Christian Messenger

JOSEPH BIRD, of Harston, in the Cambridge First Circuit, and formerly of Saffron Walden Circuit, exchanged mortality for life on Sunday evening, June 3rd, 1900, at the advanced age of ninety-six years. Soon after his conversion in early life, he united himself with the Wesleyan Methodists; but finding our own Connexion more congenial to his tastes, he shortly afterwards became a Primitive Methodist. At the time of his death he had been a member of the Church of Christ seventy-eight years, and a local preacher seventy-five years. For years it was a struggle with increasing infirmities, but his confidence in Christ remained unshaken to the end. He outlived the slender means he had laid by in early life for old age, and all his relatives; and was deeply grateful for the timely assistance rendered by the Aged and Necessitous Local Preachers’ Fund. His death was improved in Panton Street Chapel, Cambridge, on Sunday evening, July 8th, by the Rev. W. Clulow.
