Moore, Judith (nee Holloway) (1819-1903)

Transcription of Obituary In the Christian Messenger

MRS. JUDITH MOORE, Hasbury, passed away on the 24th September, 1903, at the age of 84 years. Our sister was brought to God through the labours of some of our early missionaries when they missioned Haley Green in 1834. At the close of the summer a friend offered them the use of his house, so that the services, which had so far been conducted in the open air, might be continued through the winter. It was in these cottage meetings that a number got converted, and amongst the number was our Sister Moore, then a girl about sixteen years of age. A class was formed which was the beginning of the Hasbury Society. She always manifested great interest in the work and development of the church of her choice, and though during the last few years she was unable to take an active part, she was most desirous that it should be carried on with increasing devotion and enthusiasm. To the minister and the writer who visited her during her affliction she addressed many enquiries as to how the work was prospering. She was always found calmly trusting in God, and patiently waiting the summons to depart and be forever with the Lord. The funeral took place on September 27th. Her body was brought to the chapel where a short service was held, which was well attended, many following her to the grave. The writer gave a memorial address on October 18th, at Hasbury to a large congregation.

WILLIAM PRICE.
