The 1877 Primitive Methodist magazine (page 569) records the laying of the memorial stones for a new Primitive Methodist chapel at what it calls Bank . It was in the Leeds First circuit.

Built to serve the Bank, a school-chapel was opened on Saturday 22 January 1870 in Butterfield Street.
On Tuesday, 23 April 1878, the premises as illustrated were opened, the architect being T. Horrox. The original premises became the Butterfield Hall and used for youth work. prior to demolition in the 1960s.
The present Newbourne Methodist, occupying part of the site of the 1878 building was opened in May 1971, the architect being Charlton & Crowther, Leeds. A prominent family were the Barbers, one of whom was the Rev. Benjamin Aquila Barber, Book Steward.
