Leicester Primitive Methodist chapels

Christopher Hill February 2016

In March 1918 “A Souvenir of the Centenary of Primitive Methodism in Leicester” was published.  It listed 28 Primitive Methodist chapels active at that time.    In “Methodism in and around Leicester” J Laine tells us that between 1863 and 1903 Primitive Methodists built 23 chapels in the three Leicester Circuits.

What happened to them?  Which chapels are still active?  What evidence of the others can still be found?

Can you tell more about each one?  Follow the links to the page for each chapel already on the site.  Add your comments here or on the individual page.

The attached document gives further details of each chapel and accompanying school premises – date chapel and school built, capacity of chapel and school, cost, debt in 1918 and names of Society Stewards.  Only 3 chapels were debt free – and only one Society Steward was a woman.
