Mary Ann Blackett, of Dunston

1828-42

MARY ANN, daughter of Robert and Catherine Blackett, was born Dec. 27, 1828, at Dunston, in the Newcastle circuit. Her mother died when she was three years old. Her father and his new wife were members of the Primitive Methodist society. They sought to raise their children in the fear of God.

‘The Divine blessing attended their efforts; for their daughter Mary was ultimately made the partaker of saving religion.’

Whilst dying Mary found salvation and said to her Father

“Father, the Lord has pardoned all my sins. Glory be to God! Glory be to God!”

‘She conversed about dying, and going to heaven, to be with her Saviour, in the most familiar manner… She praised God in a manner which caused amazement to the people around her bed.’

She died aged 13 on April 30th 1842.
