Johnson, Parker Appleton (1865-1899)

of Carthorpe

Transcription of Obituary In the Christian Messenger

The Bedale, circuit has sustained a severe loss in the death, on December 8th, of Brother P.A. Johnson, at the early age of 34. He removed to Carthorpe with his parents when quite a little child. In his early manhood he gave his heart to God, and remained a sincere and earnest Christian to the end. In June, 1890, he began to preach, and the cheerful manner in which he delivered his message made him always welcome in the pulpits of the circuit. He was chapel treasurer and assistant society steward at Carthorpe. During the past year, mainly through his instrumentality, a Sunday school was commenced in connection with the society, and had he lived there is no doubt that he would have found amongst the little ones, the sphere of labour for which he was pre-eminently fitted. He took his religion with him into his business relationships, and by his kindly disposition and sunny spirit endeared himself to all. Much sympathy is felt for his young widow and also for his father and mother. He will be sadly missed. It will be long, indeed, before we can realise that he is really gone from us. A memorial sermon was preached by Rev. J.W. Cotton. May we all meet our dear departed brother beyond the shadows.
