Transcription of Obituary In the Christian Messenger

MR. ROBERT ANDREW was born at Blacktoft on the 12th of November, 1813, and died at Swinefleet, May 10th, 1901. He was converted when a young man, and was a member of the connexion over sixty years. The oldest class-ticket that he has left behind is dated 1837. He was a class-leader for many years, but was obliged to relinquish that office some time ago owing to age and increasing infirmities. He was married twice, and the second wife survives him. Mr. Andrew was not only a loyal Primitive Methodist and a sincere Christian, but pre-eminently a good man. He was a regular attender at the means of grace, and he clearly loved the class-meeting and band-meeting, and he attended them as long as he possibly could. On the last two or three occasions he was so feeble that he had to be helped home. He was confined to the house for two or three months, but his sufferings were not acute until the last week or two. He was generally cheerful, and his confidence in God was strong. A favourite expression of his was: ‘I am on the rock.’ About ten minutes before the end came he lifted up his hands and said: ‘There they are! There they are!’ Mr. Andrew was greatly and generally respected, and he will be long remembered for his simple goodness. ‘He being dead yet speaketh.’— JOSEPH JOHNSON (1).

Family and other information

Robert was baptised  on 21 November 1813 at Blacktoft, Yorkshire. His parents were Robert and Sarah.

Robert was a farmer, farming about 30 acres.

He married Ann Brammer (1814-1872) on 15 June 1837 at Luddington, Lincolnshire. Census returns identify one child.
