Everatt, Rosa Kate (1875-1905)

Transcription of Obituary In the Christian Messenger

Miss ROSA KATE EVERATT.— Canning Town (Mary Street) Church and Sunday school have suffered the loss of a most consistent member and faithful worker in the decease of Miss Rosa K. Everatt, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. W.F. Everatt. After some months of painful illness, borne with unmurmuring patience, our sister entered peacefully into her eternal rest on Saturday, January 7th, 1905, having just reached her 30th birthday. Enjoying the inestimable benefits of a Christian home, godly parents and religious associations, it is not surprising that while quite young Rosa decided to devote her life to the service of Jesus Christ and His Church, a decision by which she faithfully abided to the end. From infancy she was associated with Canning Town Church, and early in life became one of its most loyal workers. As Sunday school teacher, Band of Hope Secretary, choir member, and assistant organist she rendered very excellent service. Very rarely was she absent from her post of duty. Her work was always her joy. She never made a parade of her religion, but it was manifested In her life, acts, and deeds rather than in her words. Her Christ-like spirit expressed itself in constant self-denial and sacrifice for the sake of those she loved. In the presence of hundreds of sympathetic friends and very many manifestations of respect and sorrow, the mortal remains of our sister were laid to rest in the East London Cemetery on Thursday afternoon, January 12th. The services at Mary Street Church and the grave-side were conducted by the Rev. J. Fletcher Porter. Mr. Porter also conducted a very impressive memorial service on the following Sunday evening, when a large congregation again assembled. The God of all grace comforts and sustains the loved ones left behind, and cheers them with thoughts of the resurrection and the happy re-union beyond the river.
