Transcription of Obituary In the Christian Messenger
MISS SARAH CREWE.— Former ministers and friends of the Coventry Circuits will learn with melancholy interest of the death of Miss Sarah Crewe on August 8th. For a very long period she was a local preacher on this station, and in many ways rendered excellent service to Primitive Methodism in this locality. Though it is several years since she was able to undertake work, her influence still lives in the hearts of a large number of our people, who, to this day, speak appreciatively of the services she rendered. The interment took place at Exhall Churchyard on Aug. 10th, 1903, and on Sunday, September 6th, a memorial service was held at Little Bayton Chapel, at which Miss Rosina Athersych officiated.
Family and other information
Sarah was born abt 1822 at Exhall, Warwickshire.
The 1841 census records her as a weaver. Trade Directories in the mid 1870’s record her running a village school. Sadly at the time of the 1901 census she is residing in the workhouse with her occupation described as ‘late charwoman’.
