Harrison, Thomas (abt1820-1899)

THE village of Monyash, Buxton Circuit, has Connexional fame. The Ministry has been enriched by the life and labours of the late Rev. Joseph Wood and other holy toilers.

Several strong Christian labourers were in this Society, and Bro. Thomas Harrison was not the least of them. His sphere was chiefly in the school among the young, and many valuable lessons they received from his lips. He was an unpolished diamond. He was a sturdy Primitive to the backbone. He taught pure ethical Christianity. He was a great hater of shams. His home was full of hospitality. Many of the fathers of the connexion enjoyed his good fare and shelter. Old-time chats, scenes and glory, were frequently spoken of in his later years. Who can tell how much the present model Chapel and School owe to his prayers and toils? For several years his afflictions prevented him attending the services of the sanctuary, but he loved the gates of Zion, and now he is not, for God has taken him. After more than fourscore years here he was translated to glory. May his devoted widow, son and daughter meet him in Heaven.

Thomas was born abt 1820 at Longnor, Staffordshire. He was baptised on 1 September 1822 at St. Bartholomew, Longnor, Staffordshire. His parents were Joseph Harrison, a cordwainer, and Mary..

• 1861 tallow chandler and farmer
• 1871 farmer
• 1881 farmer of 40 acres
• 1891 farmer

Thomas married Mary Dunn (1813-1859) on 21 September 1842 at All Saints, Bakewell, Derbyshire. Census returns identify two children.

• James Dunn (1843-1906) – a tallow chandler (1871); married Hannah Housley, sister of John Housley
• Ann (1849-1908) – married John Housley, a farmer, in 1876

Thomas married Ann Dunn(1821-1902) on 10 January 1861 at All Saints, Bakewell

Thomas died on 19 December 1899 at Monyash, Derbyshire.
