Mottram, William (1836-1921)
Family
William was born abt 1836 at Waterfall, Staffordshire, to parents Thomas Mottram and Frances Louisa Green. Thomas was a tailor and farmer of 39 acres (1851). William was baptised on 1 May 1836 at Waterfall.
The diary for 1868 of the Rev. William Mottram, minister at the Claremont and Westgate Buildings Primitive Methodist chapels in Bath, and then at the Congregational chapels in Crockerton and Warminster Common is held at the Wiltshire and Swindon History Centre.
William became the Secretary of the Temperance Committee of the Congregational Union.
William married Lucy Hannah Mellor (1838-1872) in the summer of 1862 in the Cheadle Registration District, Staffordshire. Census returns identify four children.
- William Thomas Mellor (1863-1896) – emigrated to USA; married in 1888 in New Orleans
- Mary Louisa Mellor (b1865)
- Helena Elizabeth Mellor (1867-1958) – married William M Preston; died in Texas, USA
- Bessie Rena (1870-1876)
William married Elizabeth Fruen (1842-1928) in the spring of 1873 in the Highworth Registration District, Wiltshire. Census returns identify three children.
- Ivan Albert Evans (1874-1961) – an engineer-in-charge of electricity generating station (1911)
- Allan Percival (1875-1934) – a head-teacher (secondary boarding school) (1911)
- Vernon Henry (1882-1976) – a physiologist and nutritionist (professor) – portrait in National Gallery
William died on 14 August 1921 at Totley, nr Sheffield, Yorkshire.
