  • The 1902 Primitive Methodist magazine (page 395-396) that “a large chapel is begun at Wombwell in the Hoyland station. Church and schools were to cost £6,000. Wombwell is only a large colliery village and but for the generous interest of Mr Henry Adams this enterprise would not have been undertaken.” He had already given £500 as a first instalment on all he meant to give.

    In 2021 it is in residential use. It still proclaims, carved into the stone work on the front (the rear is built of brick) – PRIMITIVE METHODIST CONNEXION HENRY ADAMS MEMORIAL CHURCH
