“EAST WALL.
The members and friends of the Primitive Methodist Connexion at East Wall have long felt the want of a suitable place for worship. John Taylor, Esq. … presented the Primitive Methodists with a site to build a chapel on. They proceeded to hold a tea-meeting and lay the foundation stone on Good Friday, when the Rev. W. Evans delivered a short address from Nehemiah, on the temporal and spiritual building. Miss Whitefoot, assisted by Mr. John Lindop, jun., proceeded to lay the stone. They then adjourned to Mr. Lindop’s to tea … when upwards of two hundred sat down to ‘the cup that cheers but not inebriates’ with plenty of cake, &c. After tea short addresses were delivered, and the evening closed with singing and prayer.”
