I believe this may have been the little chapel I visited with my parents on Christmas Eve?around 1987/8 (not even sure if it was still in existence as a chapel then or not)…as a previous atheist this was the first time (as an adult) I had seen God answer my prayer for direction (& it started a chain of events that changed my life)… we were actually the only people in the congregation, apart from the Minister + his wife 😁 eternally grateful

Hi Colin 1881 maps do indeed show this as a Wesleyan Methodist Chapel. It is thought to have been built in 1830 as a Primitive Methodist chapel, but I have not been able to verify that. Kresen Kernow documents have it as Wesleyan from the 1850s when it was registered for marriage; there is also reference to an 1830 lease in a 1870 (Wesleyan) trustee list.

This chapel was never a Primitive Methodist Chapel: it was Wesleyan. This assertion is based on … 1. it never appears in any PM lists (e.g. John Probert’s “Primitive Methodism in Cornwall”); 2. it does appear on Wesleyan lists (Preaching Plans, C19 lists); 3. its chapel crockery was labelled “Gorran Wesleyan Chapel”.
