Brooks, Allas (1812-1837)

Died, May 25, 1837, in Rochdale circuit, Allas Brooks, in the 25th year of her age.  She was born near Haywood, Lancashire, and brought up in a steady manner by her parents, and her mind was opened to good things in the Sunday school.

About 18 months ago she was taken ill, and by the Spirit of God was awakened in her own house through these words being deeply impressed on her mind: “These three years I come seeking fruit and find none; cut it down why cumbereth it the ground?”  A society was formed a few weeks after this, at Blackpits where she resided, and Allas was the third who gave in her name.  She believed in Christ, and in a moment felt his love shed abroad in her heart Her strength declined, but she was patient, resigned, and thankful.  She had a mother and brother in the way to heaven; and she exhorted her father, brother, and sister, to turn to the Lord.

Before her departure she saw a glorious light, brighter than the sun; and felt the glory powerfully in her soul.  The last day of her life she was very happy, and sweetly fell asleep in Jesus.
