Horsell, Bartholomew (1783-1837)

Died in the Brinkworth circuit, in the fifty-fourth year of his age, Bartholomew Horsell.  He was born in 1783, and lived a stranger to God till the P. Methodists visited Wiltshire.  Under their ministry he was convinced of sin, became a member, sought the Lord in earnest, and found him to the joy of his soul.  His love to sinners was ardent, which induced him to exhort them to turn to God; and this he continued to do until his strength failed.

The writer of these lines often visited him, and always found him panting after God.  He lived as becometh the gospel; was beloved in life, and lamented in death.

His master caused a neat head-stone to be erected over his grave, in Wooton Basset church-yard, inscribed as follows:

 “To the memory of Bartholomew Horsell, who departed this life, Feb. 2, 1837, in the fifty-fourth year of his age.

 “This stone was erected by his late Master, as the last mark of respect for his just and faithful servitude of thirty-five years.
