Middleton by Youlgreave Primitive Methodist Chapel

Not every picture in Keith Guyler’s collection of former Methodist chapels is correctly identified – and the chapel he identified as the Primitive Methodist chapel in Youlgreave by Middleton is actually the former Congregational chapel in the village. Thanks to Peter Worrall for the correction – see Peter’s comment below.
The commemorative stone on the front of the Congregational chapel says that it was opened in 1826. Its Ordnance Survey grid reference is 196634. At the time of Keith Guyler’s photograph in 1999 it was in residential use.
On visiting Middleton by Youlgrave in April 2021, Elaine and Richard Pearce noted just how large the Congregational chapel building was, having a basement and ground floor, indicating that in the past the village was, maybe, a more of an industrial village. The extension at the rear was obviously built at a later date, maybe after being sold, as the stone work is a different shade from the main chapel building.
Ordnance Survey maps of 1897 and 1920 confirm Peter’s location of the Primitive Methodist chapel as a little further south, in the Square. What’s the story?

Thanks to Peter Worrall for identifying the chapel in the picture. I’ve re-written the page in the light of Peter’s information and Jack Aston’s correction in relation to Chapel Cottage, used as a holiday let.
This building was a Congregational chapel, not Primitive Methodist. The Prim chapel was in The Square, where the playground now is.
Actually the Chapel is private residence. Chapel Cottage is the small cottage attached at the back (visible on the photograph). It was a holiday cottage until about 3 years ago when I moved in. Both properties are owned and converted by my parents beginning in 1979.
