George was born on 17 October 1813 at Saham, Norfolk. His parents were Zachariah Stacey (1788 – 1875), a master cooper journeyman, and Hannah (1791-1883)

Family

George married Elizabeth Allen (1817-1902) on 15 October 1840 at Kings Lynn. They had nine children.

  • Clarinda (1841-1906) – married James Frodsham Robinson, a lecturer in botany and chemistry
  • Samuel George (b1843)
  • Matilda (b1845)
  • Albert (1847-1871)
  • Caroline (1850-1918) – married Samuel Owens, an estate agent (auctioneer)
  • Emily Ann (1853-1919) – married Walter Hales, a carriers canal agent
  • Zechariah George (b1854)
  • Elizabeth Phillips (b1856)
  • Hannah Ellen (b1859)

George died on 4 March 1870 at Chester.

Stationing tribulations

On moving to Colchester, records show that the circuit was reluctant to accept him because of the expense of his large family and appealed to the stationing committee without success!
