Northwood Primitive Methodist chapel

The story of the chapel pictured has been moved to My Methodist History

There had been a Primitive Methodist chapel in the hamlet of Northwood, which prior to the 1930s was a rural area, part of the parish of St. Peters in Thanet. There was a Margate and Ramsgate Mission in the 1840s and it appears from the Religious census return that a chapel opened in Northwood in 1846.

James Blades, the minister, reported that on 31st March 1851 there were afternoon and evening services each attended by 20 people.

Philip Thornborow has discovered that this chapel was not registered in 1867, and it does not appear on the Ordnance Survey maps from 1871 onwards.  The building may have become a Baptist chapel (or the compiler of the map might have got their facts wrong.) The story of Primitive Methodism in Northwood remains a mystery.
