William was born in 1815 at Lynn, Norfolk to parents John and Phebe. He was baptised on 9 April 1815 at Kings Lynn.

Ministry

William undertook his ministry almost exclusively in East Anglia.

His obituary records; ‘He was not given to self praise and the habit of keeping himself and his work to the front. He plodded on and on and left the public notification of his labours to other narrators.’

Family

He married Maria Goldsmith (1821-1895) in 1844 in the Depwade Registration District. Census returns identify three children.

• John (b1847)
• Thomas (1851-1927) – a life assurance agent

William died on 26 December 1889 at Pulham St Mary Magdalen, Norfolk
