The first Primitive Methodist chapel in Martin was opened in 1829 and given by Mr Broadway to the Connexion.. The chapel in Keith Guyler’s photograph dates from 1844 when the roof was taken off the previous chapel, walls raised 3 ‘ and the south wall moved 8′ out, to produce a final size of 32′ x 24’.
Preachers at the opening were Rev Atley (Independent minister of Broad Chalke) and Mr Sharman of Motcombe. The opening tea was enjoyed by 140 people.
It was still in use at the time of his photograph in 1989. I am unable to find it on Google Street view in June 2011.

We drove through Martin this afternoon and there is no sign of it now.
