Elmfield College, York

Presented by Stanley R Slack, 1925

Englesea Brook Museum

This copy of the Primitive Methodist Hymnal was presented to Kenneth H Nattrass, when he entered the school in May 1925. It was presented to him by Stanley Radcliffe Slack, who was Headmaster from 1907-29, and also Sheriff of York from 1924-25.

Elmfield College was a Primitive Methodist boarding school, which opened in 1864, originally for the sons of Primitive Methodist Ministers.

This book turned up in America, and was kindly donated to Englesea Brook Museum by Jeff Longchamp of Dothan, Alabama. He would be delighted to know if it would be of any interest to any Nattrass or Slack descendants.

  • Stanley Roderick Slack was my great grandfather on my mother’s side. He was born in Penzance, Cornwall in 1870. His father was a Methodist minister named Joseph Henry Slack.
