Earsdon: Return from the Primitive Methodist chapel in the 1851 Census of Places of Public Religious Worship

A Primitive Methodist chapel was first built in Earsdon in 1825. It was replaced by the present stone built chapel in 1886. This one is situated on Front Street the main street of the village. Although it appears to be small it has a large basement and an extension to the rear.
In 2016 it is still open for worship. Between 15 and 20 members regularly meet here.

The opening of the chapel in 1886 is recorded in the Primitive Methodist magazine for November 1886 page 701. The chapel was complete with schoolroom and vestries. They had been worshipping in the village for 60 years – which takes us back to the 1826 original date for the Hartley chapel.
I’ve added the Return from Earsdon Primitive Methodist chapel in the 1851 Census of Places of Public Religious Worship. Interestingly it gives the date of the chapel as 1834 rather than 1825.
Equally interestingly, the return for Hartley in the Earsdon District but a little way east gives an opening date for the chapel there as 1825. Is there confusion here, or only mine?
