Additional information (CH 08/2020)

The Primitive Methodist magazine (1886/281) records the laying of the foundation stones for this chapel.  It replaced an earlier chapel which had served for 44 years. They had raised half of the cost – and the magazine editor was pleased that “our old friend” Mr Joshua Rouse was able to attend the ceremony. He hoped he would live long enough to see the opening.

  • In tracing my family history. It is easy to find details of the Ashley’s of Mansfield Woodhouse but the Thomas side is more difficult. My grand Father John Owens Thomas came to Woodhouse at the beginning of the 20th century and brought his cousin, another John Thomas, married Gladys at the Primitive Methodist, Leeming street on 20th of December (year unknown). They lived in Bottle Lane. Can anyone fill in any details?

  • We also lived in the Manse from (if I remember correctly) September 1951 to August 1954 when my father, Rev. E.S. Williamson was the minister.  I was away at Ashville College, a Methodist school, in Harrogate, during those years, but obviously came home for the holidays

  • There was an earlier PM Chapel in Mansfield on Queen Street and in 1887 that chapel was closed when they moved to the larger premises on Woodhouse Road. My father Rev: G.T. Hodgson was minister at this ex-PM chapel, then known as Leeming Street Methodist Church, from 1954-1957 . We lived in the Manse at 1, Terrace Road, next door to the chapel .
