  • I’ve added a short history of Cullercoats Methodist Church provided by its author, SB Morrison. It sets out Cullercoats from after the Quakers had left and before the Primitive Methodist arrived to near enough the present day. It contains many photographs and testimonies of what went on – including splits and the bombing, and what became of the church during and after the war,

  • The Primitive Methodist magazine of October 1901 records the opening of a new chapel at Cullercoats “well situated on the main thoroughfare. It cost just over £3,000 of which they had raised half.
    The old chapel was used as the Sunday school.

    The writer rejoiced that summer congregations were large, but wondered what would happen in the winter when there were fewer visitors. It was noted however that there were fishermen’s wives in the congregation.
