Charles was born on 16 March 1810 at Purton, Wiltshire.

Charles married Amelia Roper Legg (1821-1895) in 1846 at Newport Pagnell, Buckinghamshire. Records identify seven children.

Charles died on 24 January 1886 at Reading, Berkshire.
