Shieldmuir Primitive Methodist Church
1872-1966
Shieldmuir Primitive Methodist Church was built following a request in 1870 from the men of The Excelsior Iron Works at Shieldmuir to allow a ‘Sabbath-School’ to be established. Building began in 1871, and a memorial stone was laid by the Right Hon Lady Belhaven on 17 July. The church opened the following year. Shieldmuir Church was built after the circand opened in 1872.
It closed in 1966, when the society joined other churches in the Motherwell and Wishaw Circuit. (You can download more information below)
