Luton Marsh Road Primitive Methodist Church, Leagrave

Luton Marsh Road Primitive Methodist Church, Leagrave

The Bedfordshire Records website provides a brief history of this PM Chapel.

additional information (CH 10/2020)

The Primitive Methodist magazine tells us that work started in 1890 to open a Primitive Methodist mission chapel at Seagrave (sic) in the Luton First circuit.

The 1899 Christian Messenger tells us that the Seagrave chapel was to be enlarged.

However, there is the technical problem:  I cannot find a place called Seagrave in Bedfordshire, especially not near Luton.  It is in fact  is a suburb of Luton called Leagrave, and the Primitive Methodist chapel on Marsh Road in Leagrave was registered in November 1890 and opened in 1891 which matches the Primitive Methodist magazine date.

By the 1980s Marsh Road chapel needed serious attention.  As  a result, the church hall was changed into the church, funded by selling the site of the original church for housing which was done in 1989. The new church faces Mount Pleasant.
