Reading Oxford Road Primitive Methodist chapel
Handbook of the Primitive Methodist Conference 1915; Englesea Brook Museum

Reading Oxford Road Primitive Methodist chapel was located in an area of predominantly Victoria terraced housing.  The 1899 Ordnance Survey map shows that it was sited at the junction of Beecham Road with Oxford Road. The site is now used for housing.

That’s all I know; can you add more detail about this chapel?

  • Thanks Denise. Does anyone remember much about the chapel and the folk who went there?

  • I know an old man that lived in Beecham Road he showed me where horses were kept for the dairy or brewery the entrance to the area was 25 Beecham Road that house was built letter then all the other it looks a totally different house the old man that lives there was the 1st and is still there between the entrance to St George’s Church and the 1st terraced house on the right going up the hill was all allotments there were also about 6 shops in Beecham Road and the chapple was on the right as you entered the road from the Oxford Road on the right. On the other side of the road before it was a hairdressers, food shop, or post-office it was a bakery.
