Moulton: Return from the Primitive Methodist chapel in the 1851 Census of Places of Public Religious Worship
transcribed by David Tonks

The first chapel in Moulton was a small building attached to a row of houses. There was a graveyard. Is photo No1 this chapel?

In 1875 the congregation moved to a new building in Main Street. .This chapel stands today and is still open for worship in 2017

  • The first picture at the top of the page is not of the Methodist Chapel. This in fact is an old Congregational Chapel on Chapel Lane. The original Primitive Methodist Chapel building is immediately behind the existing church building along the side street which is Chapel Street. It is now a dwelling.

  • I’ve added the return from the 1851 Census of Places of Public Religious Worship for Moulton chapel. It was completed by Joseph Burrows and confirms the chapel opening date as 1842
