The Primitive Methodist Chapel dates from around 1873 and was central to village life for generations. It was closed in April 2001 after it fell into disuse. The Friends of Rescorla purchased the building. In 2012 the building was reroofed and has had some refurbishments done inside.

It is now the “Rescorla Centre”, a hub for celebration of all things local. The Rescorla Project, funded by the Heritage Lottery, has sought to explore the Clay Country’s cultural heritage through oral history interviews, research and a series of events.

Rescorla Centre has its own Facebook page.

In 2015 it was the centre for the Rescorla festival including a reenactment of the “Snail Creep”  dance which sounds highly entertaining if you want to read more follow the link to further information.

More information, as well as a picture of the old chapel, can be found by following this link.

  • I’ve added a transcription of the return from the Primitive Methodist preaching place at Rescoria to the 1851 Census of Places of Public Religious worship. 45 members of the society met regularly on a Sunday evening in a dwelling house belonging to Joseph Julyan junior and he made his mark to confirm the information.
