The 1881 Primitive Methodist magazine (page 701) contains a note recording the laying of the foundation stones at four Primitive Methodist chapels in the north east, including Newfield in the Bishop Auckland station. Two were new chapels, two extensions . We are told nothing more, except that together they cost £3,000
The 1897 Ordnance Survey map shows a Primitive Methodist chapel at the northern end of Stonebank Terrace. It is still there in 1945. Google Streetview shows a modern house on the site in 2009

Such fond memories of attending Sunday school at this chapel as a child and three generations of my family were baptised here.
