The foundation stones of this chapel were laid on 8th August 1869 by Miss J A Spark, sister of Mr H K Spark of Darlington.

The chapel, directly opposite the Wesleyan chapel, was often seen as the “workers” chapel – whilst the Wesleyan chapel was the “managers” chapel.

The building closed in 1964 and the congregation amalgamated with Kibblesworth South (ex WM) becoming amongst other things a candle factory. It has now been converted into luxury flats.

  • The December 1893 Primitive Methodist magazine (page 761) includes a note that a new school room had been opened at Kebblesworth (sic) in the Gateshead Second station. They had raised half the cost and expected to “liquidate the other half in the course of the next twelve months. Prudent this.”

  • The 1881 Primitive Methodist magazine (page 701) contains a note recording the laying of the foundation stones at four Primitive Methodist chapels in the north east. Two were new chapels, two extensions. Kibblesworth in the Chester le Street circuit was probably the latter. We are told nothing more, except that together they cost £3,000
