The opening of Powesbrook (sic.) (Poolsbrook) Primitive Methodist chapel is recorded in the Primitive Methodist magazine of April 1893. Described as a new colliery village near Chesterfield, Poolsbrook is shown on the 1898 Ordnance Survey map as a grid of six parallel terraces with a Wesleyan chapel at the northern end and a Primitive Methodist chapel and a mission room at its south end.
The Primitive chapel and the mission room both survive, in residential use.
