Early meetings of the Westhouses Primitive Methodist society were held in the waiting room at Westhouses Railway Station. They held fund raising events and decided to build further down Alfreton Road.  It was opened in 1897 and cost £700.

The 1897 Primitive Methodist magazine announced that “At Westhouses, a railway centre, 800 square yards of land have been purchased in the main road, and a chapel is to be erected to seat 250 people at a cost of £650.”

The chapel was still in use in 2015 but was sold at auction in December 2022.

Andrew Greasley reports that in February 2023 working organ (Albert Keates 1924 Sheffield) from Westhouses Primitive Methodist Church is available due to sale of the building. It was to be moved to Midland Railway Centre Ripley where the other church (St Saviours) from Westhouses was moved to.  However it is too big for the building.

  • Thanks to Andrew Greasley for pointing out that this page originally displayed an incorrect picture – Donisthorpe rather than Westhouses.

Andrew also reports that a new home is needed for the church organ
