Durweston Primitive Methodist Chapel, Dorset
Before I knew for certain that there had been a chapel, I noticed this property called Methody on the corner of the A357 and Water Lane – so I explored further. Durweston is not in the 1851 census but I found it on a preaching plan for 1912 in Blandford Museum. I don’t know when the chapel was built but a local resident thinks it closed in the 1960s. He said Methodism had been very strong in the village.

Hi Mark.
I do live locally and also have a copy of the circuit plan of services which shows when the last service was held.
Thank you Adam. That’s good to know. I assume you had connections with the chapel or live locally?? Mark.
The chapel actually held its final services in 1960.
Trustees correspondence in the Dorset Archives covers the period 1928-1953, suggesting the chapel closed circa 1953.
