Hazelbury Bryan : return from the Primitive Methodist chapel to the 1851 Census of Places of Public Religious worship. Return no: 269 2 9 20
provided by David Tonks 2021

Hazelbury Bryan is west of Blandford Forum. Hazelbury Bryan Primitive Methodist chapel is dated by Keith Guyler in the notes accompanying his photograph as 1847 and 1863.

The return to the Census of Places of Public Religious worship in 1851 for the chapel was completed by the minister, Isaac Hedges and confirms the 1847 date. The return shows the chapel full to capacity on both Sunday afternoon and evening, with additional scholars attending the Sunday school.

The 1861 census says that the parish had a population of 761 people – slightly fewer than now.

It is still in use and has been updated – chairs replacing pews to enable a more flexible use.
