The 1883 Primitive Methodist magazine tells us they were starting work on a new Primitive Methodist chapel at Upwey in the Weymouth station. The building was a former Independent chapel erected around 100 years previously and now placed at the service of the Primitive Methodist connexion, rent free by Nicholas Howard, J.P., Mayor of Weymouth.
The 1902 Ordnance Survey map shows a Primitive Methodist chapel on Church Street. In 1938 it is labelled as Methodist church. On Street View in 2009 and 2019, it is in residential use.

The building was constructed in 1809 as an Independent Meeting House and was licensed in April 1810 for ‘Dissenting Protestants ‘
It functioned as a Primitive Methodist chapel from 1883 to 1932. After closure in 1932 following the Methodist union worshippers would have gone to the nearby former Wesleyan chapel in Elwell Street, about half a mile distant.
The building, which belonged to nearby Southbrook House, was then used as a meeting room for groups such as the Scouts, the Sea Scouts and Toc H.
It was converted to residential use in the 1980s (?)
and since 1974 is a Grade 2 listed building.
