On 30th March 1835 a meadow called Kilatkins, formerly an orchard, was bought for £25 from the executors of Daniel Coward for the erection of a Primitive Methodist Chapel. The Trustees were Joseph Roberts and Charles Lanning of Kington Magna, Maurice Stainer of Blandford, Robert Compton and Joseph Palmer of Charlton Marshall, Stephen Butt and George Butt of Stickland; all are Yeomen except Maurice Stainer who is a Basket Maker.

In 1837 part of the land was conveyed to Robert’s daughter Betty (or Betsy) Compton in consideration of £10 lent towards the building costs. When Charlton Marshall chapel was sold in 1951, part of the proceeds was given to Winterborne Zelston for refurbishments; I’m not sure if the early connections between the two chapels were known or not. The building is now the Village Hall.
