Alveston Primitive Methodist chapel

Bristol circuit

The Primitive Methodist magazine for October 1854 contains an account by Joseph Preston of the opening of Alveston Primitive Methodist chapel, 10 miles from Bristol.

The chapel measured 30′ x 21′ and was 14′ high. The opening sermons were preached on Sunday July 30th 1854 and a tea meeting the following day by Rev. J Butcher and Mr PT Tanner.

On late 19th century Ordnance Survey maps, I cannot find a Primitive Methodist chapel in Alveston village.  However, there is a chapel shown in Alveston Down, on the east side of what is currently The Down.  This is opposite the 1883 Primitive Methodist chapel, which has been converted to become Chapel Cottage (BS35 3PH). This is the location shown on the map.
