The Primitive Methodists in Bodwen in the parish of Luxulyan submitted a return from their preaching place to the 1851 Census of Places of Public Religious worship. It said they were meeting in a dwelling house and had an average Sunday afternoon congregation of 45. They also had a weeknight meeting on alternate Tuesdays.

The return was completed by John Groce, the manager.
